Christine Quinn, Speaker New York City Council

October 16, 2012
Christine Quinn
Speaker
New York City Council

Dear Speaker Quinn,
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, I’ll be hosting NYCLASS’s gala to promote their pilot program for classic cars to replace New York's horse-drawn carriages, a bill which has the support of 23 council members. I know you’re a busy woman, but I’d like to invite you to be my date for the evening in hopes you’ll consider being the 24th council supporter.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Edison Ballroom, and many notable New Yorkers like Liv Tyler, Russell Simmons, Kathy Najimy, and Kristen Johnston will be there to enjoy cocktails, a gourmet vegetarian dinner, and a live performance by Joan Jett. I would be honored to have you join me and would welcome the opportunity to discuss with you in person this issue which is of such great concern to New Yorkers and people like me who visit the city a lot.

Please let me know if you can join me on Tuesday. And please feel free to bring your wife—three’s company!

Sincerely,
Pamela Anderson

Alison Redford, Premier of Alberta, Canada

July 16, 2012
The Honourable Alison Redford
Premier of Alberta

Dear Premier Redford:
I am writing on behalf of PETA to appeal to you to take decisive action to stop the deadly chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede. This reckless event—in which horses are routinely killed—must come to an end.
Horses used in chuckwagon races have sustained fractured legs and broken backs and suffered heart attacks. Despite new rules designed to make the races less deadly, three horses died and another sustained serious injuries in this year's Stampede. It's clear that there's nothing that can make these races safe. The chuckwagon races must be eliminated once and for all.
As a Canadian, I am ashamed that these races continue even as horses die. Can I please hear that you'll use your influence to convince Stampede organizers to do the right thing and permanently end these spectacles?
Thank you for your time and attention.
Yours truly,
Pamela Anderson

Philipp Rösler, Minister of Economics and Technology of Germany

April 19, 2012
The Honorable Philipp Rösler
Minister of Economics and Technology

Dear Mr. Minister,
I hope this letter finds you well. The end of Canada’s commercial seal slaughter is near, now that the European Union, the U.S., and Russia—which had been importing 95 percent of Canadian pelts—have all banned seal fur. As you may know, I’ve been working with PETA to end the slaughter once and for all. Our main concern now is that the government in my native Canada is trying to overturn the E.U. ban by appealing to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Canada knows it will lose this challenge but is bluffing with the threat of WTO action. I realize that to the governments of Europe, this seems like a juvenile political move—but our government is only posturing in order to garner political support in Canada’s Atlantic states. The rest of the country finds it embarrassing.
As the vast majority of Germans want the seal slaughter to end, including the more than 40,000 people in Germany who have urged Canada’s prime minister to put a stop to it, I’m writing to ask that you please do all in your power to ensure that the E.U. ban on seal products remains in place. I hope to hear that you will use your influence to encourage the European Commission and WTO to dismiss Canada’s case challenging the ban, given the fact that a panel still has not yet been formed after more than a year. Germany has been so progressive on so many social issues that PETA just wants to make sure that this is on your radar, too.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Gilad Erdan, Minister of Environmental Protection of Israel

May 11, 2011
The Honorable Gilad Erdan
Minister of Environmental Protection

Dear Mr. Minister,
I have been informed by the International Anti-Fur Coalition (IAFC) that the bill introduced by MK Ronit Tirosh to ban the fur trade in Israel has been delayed once again. However, I am delighted that your bill to protect wild animals includes a ban on fur as well.
On behalf of compassionate people everywhere, I urge you to give your full attention to advance these vital and groundbreaking bills and speak up for the millions of animals who are bludgeoned, beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their pelts each year. After watching just a few moments of the IAFC footage, you will see that the ways in which animals suffer and die in the fur trade violate Jewish principles, which strictly prohibit causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
By setting this precedent and banning a cruel and needless industry, Israel would provide a shining example of care and compassion for others to follow.
I hope that you will use your great influence and this amazing opportunity to spread a message of love and justice for all living beings. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,
Pamela Anderson

Peter Van Loan, Minister of International Trade

March 29, 2011
The Honourable Peter Van Loan
Minister of International Trade

Dear Mr. Van Loan,
In light of the WTO's decision to formally hear and settle Canada's case over the ban on seal products by E.U. member countries, my friends at PETA and I urge you to open up the hearings to the public and make all submissions to the WTO publicly available when they are filed.Canadians and concerned citizens everywhere have the opportunity to weigh in by submitting comments to the WTO panel that will be deciding the case. First, we need to know what information Canada is putting forth. If Canada doesn't have anything to hide about how seals are bludgeoned and skinned in the commercial slaughter, then there will be no issue making these hearings and submissions public.
I deeply regret that my native Canada has decided to use the WTO to further delay the phase-out of the commercial seal slaughter, which is internationally condemned by world leaders such as President Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, and the Dalai Lama. Furthermore, the challenge will be a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. The challenge of E.U. member countries' ban on seal products has already been estimated to reach up to $10 million. I hope that you will do the right thing here.

Sincerely,
Pamela Anderson

Floyd "Buddy" Villines, Pulaski County Judge

February 7, 2011
The Honorable Floyd "Buddy" Villines Pulaski County Judge
201 S. Broadway, Ste. 400 Little Rock, AR 72201

Dear Judge Villines,
On behalf of my friends at PETA, I am writing to urge you to support the proposal to establish differential license fees for dogs and cats in Pulaski County. Differential fees save lives by motivating people to spay and neuter their animal companions.
When U.S. animal shelters are killing nearly 4 million dogs and cats every year because there are many more animals than there are good homes for them, preventing the births of unwanted animals with differential license fees is a no-brainer!
The state of New York and many cities, including St. Louis, Mo.; Columbia, S.C.; and your own county's North Little Rock, have differential licensing fees that have proved helpful in encouraging spaying and neutering. Please do the right thing for animals by supporting the differential licensing proposal.
Thank you.

Very truly yours,

Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia

June 2, 2010
Vladimir Putin Prime Minister of Russia
Dear Prime Minister Putin,
My friends at PETA and I were pleased to see a recent slideshow spotlighting your fondness for animals. Since you've already banned the slaughter of baby seals in Russia, I'm writing to ask that you also ban seal-pelt imports from my native Canada, where almost all seals who are killed are 3 months of age or younger. Such a ban would embrace a worldwide trend—the U.S., the European Union, and Mexico have banned seal imports, and world leaders such as U.S. President Barack Obama and His Holiness The Dalai Lama have spoken up for seals. PETA gathered more than 50,000 signatures on a petition, which I delivered in Canada earlier this year, calling for an end to the annual seal massacre.
I look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached at XXXXXXXXXX.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, Pamela Anderson
