Moscow dinner for IFAW, Donors and sympathetic people, Activists wanting to join forces.

Hello,

One of the things that Russians and Canadians have in common is that we are citizens of nations with vast territories of wilderness and with large populations of wild citizens of diverse species.

In wilderness there is a future. In wilderness there is hope. In wilderness there is freedom.

We should not be complacent about the natural treasures we are blessed with. Indeed it bestows on us an awesome responsibility to be custodians and to bequeath what we have to our children and their children’s children.

The Iroquois held the view that we must not make any decision until we take into consideration the consequences of our decisions on all future generations.

The lands of Russia like those of Canada are silent monuments of all that has come before and within the dark forests, from the tops of the mountains to the depths of million lakes a busy biodiversity of species maintains our life support systems. Our lands in all their richness straddle to top of the planet and we who are fortunate to live in these times must understand the importance of living harmoniously with all other species.

Russia like Canada is more than just a nation of people. We are nations of diversity of life and our survival and our happiness rests on maintaining that diversity.

This world is self sustaining but only if we as the dominant species participate in the process of renewal with the tools of conservation Kindness and Empathy.

I may be a little naive, and I certainly do not want to offend anyone -But- For the record. I must say- I do not believe in sexism, racism or speciesism. There is no one here more important than a dog or a cat or a whale or a chimpanzee... We must coexist. Harmoniously .. without war, With out guns, without bombs, maybe even without military, or borders. There is no superior religion or race.
The planet was not made for just humans- to devour,
and corrupt ...
It feels like a bad dream -
FeAr IS an illusion- it is used
to control people-
to feed into the fantacism -is propogandic mind tampering - ,
to be fighting and killing over,
what we all crave..
and deserve.
Peace,
for ALL living things.
The only REAL issue before us - is saving the planet.
Giving people the freedom they deserve- to love who they wish - to just be who they are -
love heals in all forms.
We must create more
Renewable energy options -not be toying, bartering with fossil feuls, we must protect the biodiversity of land and sea... Is our only hope.
There is a dangerous
chess game going on around us.
-maybe,  it's just to see - who might save the day.
At this point. desperately...
I believe it is President Putin -
He or ...
Sean Penn. ?
Who knows...
It's a toss up.
Enjoy your evening.
For all the Oceans
And, Lands creatures. We must focus on what's important.
Life ...
And ... Freedom for All -
Prost!!

Let me just put something out there. 2 remaining issues I need to get more specific about.
While I'm surrounded by generous and pro-active people.
I want to share with you what I am currently working on-

The introduction of Sea sanctuary Pens - to replace sea aquariums works wide.

Russia could pioneer the setting up of Sea Pens, places to hold and rehabilitate Orcas. There has been much talk about it but nothing established so far. I think if Russia initiated it, NGO’s could contribute to it. I think we could start such a program for around 12 million Euros and once started, enlist foundations and NGO’s to help fund the program. The most important thing is to secure a suitable location – an ice free bay or fjord that can be netted off at the entrance.

As for the Salmon Farms being discussed ;

Salmon farms are ecologically destructive for the following 10 reasons.

Introduction of an exotic invasive species into an ec0-system it does not belong. Many salmon will escape into the wild presenting competition and spreading disease to other wild salmon and other fish species.
40% of the fish caught in the wild is converted to fish meal to feed domestic animals and a very large percentage goes to create fish pellets to feed to domestic salmon. It is estimated that at least 70 fish must be caught in the wild to raise on farm raised salmon.
Salmon farms attack predators like seals, bears, eagles etc causing the salmon farmers to kill wildlife species.
Salmon farms drop a great deal of fecal material into the water that concentrates on the bottom and depletes oxygen for marine life.
Salmon farming is chemical intensive with chemicals used to keep growth off the nets.
Salmon farm used a great amount of antibiotics to counter the disease causes by over-crowding.
Diseases from domestic salmon have spread to wild salmon species.
Salmon farms also breed sea lice which transfer to wild salmon fingerlings with lethal consequences
Salmon raised on salmon farms have a dirty white flesh. The red in wild salmon comes from feeding on krill. To replace the loss of krill, reddish dye is mixed with the food to artificially colour the flesh.
Salmon farming utilizes growth hormones and genetically modified manipulation to create larger fish in half the time.

As for the Transit of endangered Whale Meat. it's quite simple-

If Russia refuses to issue a permit to Iceland for the transfer of whale meat through their waters, Iceland will not be able to transfer whale meat through Russian waters.
In addition to the permit, Russia provides ice breaking and pilotage assistance.

Or remove permits all together so conservationists like sea shepherd can follow them through the waters and make it more difficult to act illegally.

Thank you everyone.

December 3rd, 2015

Dear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,

Your election as Prime Minister is like a warm return of Spring after a bitterly long winter.

The harsh and cold rhetoric of the Harper years has melted away and a more compassionate sun now shines down upon Ottawa sending warm waves of reason, equality and fairness across the nation.

We are proud of our country’s representation at COP 21 in Paris and your leadership provides hope, not just for Canada, but also for the planet.

On behalf of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society we want to express to you our joy, delight and relief for your election as leader of our nation.

Finally we have a government that cares about people, cares about our environment, understands the reality of climate change, seeks justice for our indigenous peoples and transparency and academic freedom for government scientists.

We are delighted with your choice of Catherine McKenna as the new Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and we are happy that for the first time in a very long time we have a cabinet that truly reflects the rich diversity of our multicultural society.

Mr. Prime Minister, we want you to know that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the Pamela Anderson Foundation and our international support base of more than a million people applaud your new government and we would like to offer you as much support as we can in implementing policies and programs that protect biodiversity and eco-systems in the waters of our three oceans.

We would like to work with you to repair the damage to oceanic ecosystems, to recover diminished populations of cod in the Atlantic, to protect indigenous salmon in the Pacific and to restore vitally needed fisheries and environmental research.

There is now a need more than ever to protect endangered and threatened species in the Arctic and we want to work with you, to offer our ships and volunteers to help in anyway we can to protect the ecological heritage of the far north.

Mr. Prime Minister as Canadians and as directors of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the Pamela Anderson Foundation we would like to stand with you in addressing the threats to the environment, to our animals, plants and people as we move forward into a new era that will require cooperation, leadership, imagination and courage to find solutions to mitigate climate change and to find ways to cope with this threat to our survival both as a species and as a nation.

Canada has always been a pioneer in the tackling environmental challenges. Our nation is the birthplace of the Greenpeace Foundation, the Suzuki Foundation and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Our former international chair, the late Farley Mowat, once told us that Canada was the cradle of the modern environmental movement and that the relationship that Canadians have with nature is deeply spiritual and reflects our true and inspirational values.

We are the nation of the beaver, the moose, the whale, the bear, the loon, the wolverine, the salmon, the cod and the ptarmigan. We are the nation of the Douglas fir, the silver birch, the cedar and the maple. And we are the nation of a people born out of the deep silence of the dark woods, the great rivers, the towering Rockies and a land so vast and wild that it will forever define us as a people at one with nature, wilderness, and the majesty of creation.

We are Canadians and you sir are the leader we have been waiting a very long time for, a leader that has the potential to make us great again as a compassionate, just and inspiring people.

Most Sincerely Yours

Pamela Anderson Joins Board of Directors of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

The Actress and Animal Activist has Joined the Board of the Marine Conservation Non-Profit of Which She Has Been a Longtime Supporter and Advisory Board Member

Pamela Anderson known actress and dedicated animal activist Pamela Anderson has joined the Board of Directors of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS).

Anderson, a long-time supporter and dear friend of Sea Shepherd Founder Captain Paul Watson, has a long history of working with the marine conservation nonprofit. She joined the organization’s prestigious Media and Arts Advisory Board in January 2015. Today, Sea Shepherd is honored to welcome her as a working member of its Board of Directors, who will play an active role in the organization’s mission to defend ocean wildlife and habitats worldwide.

Anderson has not only dedicated her time and resources to human and animal rights, and environmental protection, but she has also bravely fought alongside Sea Shepherd and in defense of ocean species on the frontlines. In the summer of 2014, Pamela traveled to the Faroe Islands to publicly speak about the mass slaughter of pilot whales known as the “grindadráp” or “grind,” and this year asked Denmark — a European nation subject to EU laws prohibiting the slaughter of cetaceans — to end its support of this brutal practice. In 2006, the Canadian native spoke up against the Canadian seal slaughter at the Juno Awards, sparking the strongest protests ever against the barbaric culling. This year, Anderson personally asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to take action to stop an illegal shipment of endangered whale meat from Iceland to Japan, and accepted an invitation from Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoi to address the East Russian Economic Forum on matters of wildlife protection on behalf of her charitable Pamela Anderson Foundation.

Among her many concerns and actions in support of animal causes, Anderson is especially determined to help Sea Shepherd in its efforts to bring about an end to whaling, an internationally condemned practice that she believes belongs in the past. Sea Shepherd is perhaps best known for its hit TV series Whale Wars, which highlights its battle on the high seas against Japanese whalers, who harpoon whales in a globally designated whale sanctuary. In late 2012, the whalers convinced the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to issue an injunction that banned SSCS from continuing to interfere with their illegal hunt. As a law-abiding organization, Sea Shepherd complied and withdrew from the Southern Ocean whale defense campaigns, which have since been continued by other Sea Shepherd entities. Anderson now joins the Board of SSCS at a time when the organization is taking the battle to protect the whales from the seas to the U.S. courts.

“Japan is now headed to the Southern Ocean, where its deadly industrial whaling fleet will hunt highly intelligent and socially complex whales in their internationally recognized sanctuary, in defiance of both the International Court of Justice and the Australian Federal Court. If the whales are not safe from illegal whaling in the remote wilderness of their Antarctic sanctuary, where are they safe? The urgent fight against the poaching of whales must continue in the courts, and I am proud to stand with Sea Shepherd on behalf of our clients, the whales,” said Anderson. “I have joined Sea Shepherd in the Faroe Islands to oppose the mass slaughter of pilot whales, and opposed Iceland’s hunting of endangered whales. My goal, and Sea Shepherd’s, is to bring an end to whaling, and I believe that together we can achieve it.”

Anderson has justly received many awards and honors, including the Mercy for Animals Sam Simon Award for being a defender of animal rights, and in 2014 was named Grand Dame of Montenegro in recognition of her animal activism. She is also the recipient of the Linda McCartney Memorial Award, presented to her by Sir Paul McCartney, to recognize her dedicated work as a staunch defender of animal rights. Her own charity, the Pamela Anderson Foundation, provides support and funding directly to those organizations on the frontlines protecting and defending the rights of the planet and all those who call it home.
