To the Russian Embassy,

Pamela Anderson Requests Meeting in Russia with President Putin or Environmental Minister Sergei Donskoi

from Sea Shepherd press release:

World-renowned actress and animal rights activist Pamela Anderson sent a letter to the Russian Embassy on Monday requesting a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin or Sergei Donskoi, Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment for the Russian Federation, in the hope of forging a constructive relationship on behalf of her Foundation with the Russian government regarding issues concerning wildlife, animals and the environment.

The request comes on the heels of a letter she sent to Putin on July 5th asking him to take measures to prevent the passage of the St. Kitt’s-registered cargo vessel Winter Bay through the Northeast Passage to Japan. The vessel, still in port in Norway and awaiting permission to make the crossing to Japan, is carrying an illegal cargo of 1,700 tonnes (approximately 1,800 tons) of endangered fin whale meat from Iceland. Because the illegal cargo violates the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), the Icelandic shipment could not be sent via the Panama or Suez Canal and the ship could not stop in any European, North American, South American or African ports.

In the July 13th letter, the Canadian-born actress praised the Russian government for its compassionate stance on the Canadian seal slaughter issue, stating: “Russia was very instrumental in helping to remove the demand for seal pelts from Canada, where so many seal pups are slaughtered each year. Because of Russia’s intervention on behalf of the seals, I have come to appreciate just how effective Russia can be in addressing these issues that I am so very concerned with.”

She added: “I think there is much that we can do together to make this a better world for all our children tomorrow.”

Anderson has been called the “American Brigitte Bardot,” not only because of her stunning beauty but also for her heartfelt compassion for all living creatures, two traits which she shares with the legendary French actress. Like Bardot’s Brigitte Bardot Foundation, Anderson has her own non-profit, the Pamela Anderson Foundation, which supports organizations and individuals that stand on the front lines in the protection of human, animal, and environmental rights. By funding the efforts of those who defend the planet and all who live within it, the Pamela Anderson Foundation is an agent of change and an advocate for justice.

“Sea Shepherd Conservation Society supports the efforts of Pamela Anderson and the Pamela Anderson Foundation in their efforts to better our world for future generations,” said Sea Shepherd Founder Captain Paul Watson.

“Pamela Anderson is a prominent and passionate ally for the voiceless on our planet,” said Watson. “Her heart is purely and singularly focused on making our world a better place for every living being.”

President Putin and the Russian Federation have the power to do the right thing for countless species of wildlife and our environment. All it takes is one simple meeting to set the wheels in motion.

Below is the English text of the letter sent by Pamela Anderson to the Russian Embassy requesting a meeting:

The Pamela Anderson Foundation

To the Russian Embassy,

I am writing you today with an urgent request.

With the greatest respect for the President and the government of Russia I would like to humbly ask for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin or with Sergei Donskoi, the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment for the Russian Federation.

I would love to have the opportunity to meet and to discuss how, on behalf of my Foundation, I can forge a constructive relationship with the Russian government over issues related to wildlife, animals and the environment.

I do have a voice in the international community and I would like to use my voice, as humble as it is, to help make this world a better place for all living things.

The Russian Federation has great influence and I’ve seen how decisions by Russia can have a positive and beneficial impact on the environment and the welfare of animals. Russia was very instrumental in helping to remove the demand for seal pelts from Canada, where so many seal pups are slaughtered each year.

Because of Russia’s intervention on behalf of the seals, I have come to appreciate just how effective Russia can be in addressing these issues that I am so very concerned with.

I would like to be able to work in cooperation with the voices of compassion in Russia and thus I am hopeful that you can grant me an audience with the President or the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment.

I think there is much that we can do together to make this a better world for all our children tomorrow.

In pursuing this idea I would like to come to Moscow by myself to meet with President Putin and/or with Minister Donskoi. Perhaps a dinner or a lunch meeting would be nice, and it would give me the opportunity to become acquainted with the details of Russia’s commitment to protecting the environment and the diversity of wildlife.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson's New Beginnings

How does one redefine their iconicity? Is the task even possible in an era when your past is ruthlessly documented online, in photographs and tabloid articles?
It’s a challenge that Pamela Anderson is now facing as she confronts this next chapter of her life, both professionally and personally. Gone are the days of Playboy covers,Baywatch sequences and tumultuous relationships—the world of the 1990s in which she first rose to fame. Anderson, now at 47, is a mother and actress who, like many of us, is coming to terms with how she will define herself in this new era where celebrity, technology and identity intersect. She is charting a path for herself in an entirely new fashion: last year, for example, she emerged with a pixie cut after chopping off most of her hair—long, blonde waves that had become emblematic of the person she once was and the image she used to represent. Rather than retreat into seclusion, Anderson is choosing to confront her legacy, no holds barred.
No one can fully escape their past, but America tends to have a fondness for narratives about reinvention. Perhaps now, two decades after she became a household name,is when we will see Anderson wholly and truly come into her own.

What is beautiful? I think that’s really the question. I’ve never really thought of myself as beautiful. I always thought I had weird features. I never thought that I was a classic beauty. I figured I would go home, retire, go back to Canada. I guess I am not going home yet.

In this business, images aren’t ever real. They retouch everything, and then women compare themselves to people in magazines who don’t even exist. No one looks like that in real life.

I’m going through this tumultuous time right now. There are really hard moments, but I’m so excited about the future. I am not sitting here in depression. I am feeling these feelings and I’m going through it, but I think there is such a bright future. I almost didn’t believe there was a threshold I needed to cross. There was a time where I was like, “Is this it? Is this all there is? I want to have my kids and my grandkids … and then what?”
You come to this crossroads in your life where you feel you are going to be miserable for the rest of your life, or excited and try all new things and go for it on all different levels. There is a woman who lives in my head that nobody else sees. She is a dancer, a singer, a writer. She is so many things. I feel closer to that woman as I get older. Being an actress? This was something that I really needed to prove to myself. I haven’t worked with a lot of people that were really taking me or my craft seriously.

Men have really defined my moods over all this time. Now, I really want to be on my own.My kids are grown;I have been married too many times. That’s mostly because I wanted to have a family for them. For some reason, we have this old thing stuck in our heads that we must supply this image for our children. But in the end, it was just confusing for them. I am so glad they turned out so well, because I have really put them through the ringer. They have seen a lot. Now I can’t believe I’m going through a divorce at 47. Finally, I think things are changing and I couldn’t be more excited. I am on my own trip right now. I don’t want to listen to anyone else’s opinion. My kids are grown and they’re going to college. I feel this sense of freedom of my age, like I finally don’t have to be that person I was anymore. This is a whole new adventure.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, President of Russia

The Pamela Anderson Foundation

Dear President Putin,

I believe that we both share a mutual love for animals and a deep respect for nature and for this reason I would like to make a personal request to you, on behalf of endangered Fin whales. At this moment there is a ship in Tromso, Norway called the Winter Bay. It is carrying a cargo of 1,700 tons of Fin whale meat.

These whales were killed illegally in violation of the International Whaling Commission’s moratorium on commercial whaling. It is also illegal to kill Fin whales and to engage in the trade of endangered species.

The Winter Bay was unable to transit the Suez Canal or the Panama Canal or to transit via Europe or Africa for fear of being stopped by the appropriate authorities.

The Winter Bay intends to transit through Russian waters with assistance of Russian ice-breakers to deliver this illegal cargo to Japan.

President Putin, you can stop this illegal transit by forbidding this vessel from carrying a cargo of endangered Fin whale meat through Russian waters to Japan.

I would like to respectfully ask you to consider investigating this shipment and to do what you can to prevent it from transiting to Japan an illegal cargo. Your decision could put an end to the needless slaughter of endangered whales by Iceland.

Thank-you Mr. President for your consideration of my request.

Sincerely,

Pamela Anderson

Winter Bay не смог путешесвовать через Суэцкий канал, ни Панамский канал и так же не смог проплыть через Европу и Африку, опасаясь орестом соответствующих органов.
Winter Bay
